Illustrations in two colors appear throughout, including relief-sculpture reproductions, classroom-style drawings, and stills from stage productions. Notably, the cover design features The Annunciation, attributed to a school of fifteenth-century Italian painters, reproduced with permission from the National Gallery of Art.
