Minor edge and corner wear; lightly scuffed and scratched; spine is gently creased as well as the lower corner of the front of the wrapper; some light shelf wear; overall a very crisp and clean SIGNED first edition! Inscribed and dated by the author on the inner front cover! Color illustrated wrapper with black and white lettering. 304 very clean unmarked and uncreased magical and imaginative pages! " 'What's her problem?' he muttered. Before he could delve any deeper into that quandary, the crack of the gavel summoned his attention back to the dais. The Lord Chairman rose from his seat to his full height and, as protocol required, yelled out across the room: 'This august council has reached a decision!" Looking down at Medes, he said, "You are exiled from Cadre until further notice. You--' Medes sprang from the chair. 'By the huge hairy balls swinging between the hind legs of a monstrous lumbering muzzgutt, but that's not fair! Until further notice? And when might tha--' The Lord Chairman slammed his gavel down this time, its eardrum rending sound reverberating throughout the bleak room. 'Be silent! You are the rudest and most self-centered Eternal Being I've ever met!' The security officer snickered. Distracted, the Lord Chairman shot her a reproving look. He took a moment to recompose himself then looked back down at Medes and growled, 'You will be allowed to return when you can show us you have learned that Universe was not created for your sole benefit! That you have developed an understanding of one's responsibility to others, and that the concept of that kind of responsibility despises selfishness! You are excused!' Medes stood open-mouthed as the gavel struck the dais in a final, jarring bang. The Lord Chairman turned to leave. He froze and looked back, his eyes boring into Medes still standing there gaping. "I said you are excused! I want you out of my sight and off Cadre within the hour!' Thus begins Medes' exile and our current adventure." (SIGNED COPY). Inscribed By the Author.

Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. Edward Simmons,, E. A. Abbey, Kenyon Cox, John Sargent, E. H. Blashfield, Elihu Vedder et al (illustratore). "American Mural Painters " by Arthur Hoeber, was published in 1914 by The Mentor Department of Fine Arts as Serial No. 67. This essay was then bound in a large collection of disparate articles similar to a Sammelband. The essay, a stand-alone piece, illustrated with sepia toned pictures, was disbound and the spine covered. It is not a definitive article, because of its brevity, but it touches on a considerable number of important artists that had been working in the nineteenth century and beginning of the twentieth century. The tone is genial and the essay is informative. There are fourteen monochrome pictures through the text and six full page, loose illustrations done in sepia. The pictures through the text are discussed, and each plate illustration is given a full page explanation (this done on the reverse of each specific picture - so that when viewed , the text opposite is for the preceding picture - lest one be confused when viewing the pictures provided above - the essay, when originally issued, was presented with text and pictures lying loose within a wrap. The monograph was issued with the sepia gravures sitting loose (unbound). The pictures through the text are interesting, representing some of the finest mural work that had been done. One that stands out is a work consisting of three Panels by Maxfield Parrish, depicting a Florentine Fête. Hoeber, himself, was a highly accomplished artist, specializing in landscapes. The six full sized sepia 'gravure' pictures are as follows : ** Return of the Battle Flags - by Edward Simmons ** The Apotheosis of Pennsylvania by E. A. Abbey ** The Beneficence of the Law - by Kenyon Cox ** Hosea - Detail - by John Sargent ** Detail of the Anthony Drexel Memorial Chancel by E. H. Blashfield ** The Pleiades - by Elihu Vedder SERIAL : Department of Fine Arts Serials (Mentor Vol. 2, No. 15, Serial # 67) TITLE : American Mural Painters AUTHOR : Arthur Hoeber (1854 - 1915) IMPRINT : The Mentor Association PLACE : No Place given - [but New York] DATE : (1914) EDITION : Unstated STATUS : OP ? The Classic Edition of 'Immigrant Youth in Cultural Transition', first published in 2006, includes a new introduction by the editors, describing the ongoing relevance of this volume in the context of future challenges for this vital field of study. It emphasizes the importance of continued actions and policies to improve the quality of interactions between multiple ethno-cultural groups, and highlights how these issues have developed the field of cross-cultural psychology. In the original text, an international team of psychologists with interests in acculturation, identity, and development describes the experience and adaptation of immigrant youth, using data from over 7,000 immigrant youth from diverse cultural backgrounds and national youth living in 13 countries of settlement. They explore the way in which immigrant adolescents carry out their lives at the intersection of two cultures (those of their heritage group and the national society), and how well these youth are adapting to their intercultural experience. It explores four distinct patterns followed by youth during their acculturation: *an integration pattern, in which youth orient themselves to, and identify with both cultures; *an ethnic pattern, in which youth are oriented mainly to their own group; *a national pattern, in which youth look primarily to the national society; and *a diffuse pattern, in which youth are uncertain and confused about how to live interculturally. The study shows the variation in both the psychological adaptation and the sociocultural adaptation among youth, with most adapting well. This Classic Edition continues to be highly valuable reading for researchers, graduate students, and public policy makers who have an interest in public health, psychology, anthropology, sociology, demography, education, and psychiatry.
