JOHNSON, C[harles] B. Letters from the British Settlement in Pennsylvania. To Which Are Added, the Constitution of the United States, and of Pennsylvania; and Extracts from the Laws Respecting Aliens and Naturalized Citizens. Philadelphia: H. Hall, 1819. 1st ed. 16mo. xii, [25]-192pp. Modern half morocco and cloth. Faded library stamp on title page, lacks the map as usual. Very good. Howes J-128: "Written to discourage emigration to Birkbeck's 'fever prairies' or to other trans-Alleghany colonies." However, Johnson, a British emigrant, is in favor of Pennsylvania. The map is frequently lacking, as here.
