Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - The Autobiography of Colonel Richard Malcolm Johnston is a compelling memoir that chronicles the life of the eponymous author. Colonel Johnston was a prominent figure in the American Civil War and a celebrated author of the late 19th century. In this book, he recounts his early years growing up in Georgia, his experiences as a soldier in the Confederate Army, and his career as a writer and educator. The book is divided into several chapters, each focusing on a particular period in Colonel Johnston's life. He describes his childhood on a plantation, his education at the University of Georgia, and his decision to join the Confederate Army. He provides vivid accounts of his experiences in battle, including the Battle of Gettysburg and the Siege of Petersburg. After the war, Colonel Johnston became a teacher and eventually a professor at the University of Georgia. He also pursued a career as a writer, publishing several novels and short stories. He provides insight into his creative process and the inspiration behind his works.Throughout the book, Colonel Johnston reflects on the societal changes that occurred during his lifetime, including the end of slavery and the Reconstruction era. He offers his opinions on these issues and provides a unique perspective on the history of the American South.Overall, The Autobiography of Colonel Richard Malcolm Johnston is a fascinating account of a remarkable life. It offers a glimpse into the mind of a celebrated writer and provides valuable insights into the history of the American South.Yet his vigorous intellect and fervid eloquence gave him a high standing. He had much boldness and sincerity in asserting his opinions. This cost him the loss of his party nomination for governor (I believe it was in 1839), when he announced himself in favor of a national bank. Elected by the legislature judge of the northern circuit, he resigned six months before the expiration of his term and removed to the State of Texas. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
