Hardcover. Condizione: Good + to Very Good. No Jacket. Limited. Binding tight; interior clean; beginning hinge cracks at ffep and p.81. Very strange as Galleon Press usually reprints original text as is this but the Galleon Title page and equivalent page in the rear (all pages folded once for sewing in) are Xerox copies and are attached by a glue seam on the previous page. I don't know if this is a binding error/correction or what happened. Supposedly limited to 300 copies (maybe they ran out of the title page). Anyhow, a fairly scarce book with a nice blue board binding. Originally a MA thesis for the Univ. of Wisconsin and printed in 1918 by the Illinois State Historical Society. 80pp., followed by unpaginated bibliography.

This book provides a deep examination of the history and development of the Oregon Trail, the primary route for American settlers to reach what would become the Pacific Northwest during the mid-19th century. The book explores the complex human motivations and political circumstances that resulted in the mass westward migration, including the role of manifest destiny, the impact of the fur and timber trades, and the desire for new economic opportunities. The author traces the changing landscape of the trail itself, from its earliest use by Native American peoples to its establishment as a major transportation route and the challenges and dangers faced by those who traveled it. The book explores the broader historical and literary context of the Oregon Trail narrative, cementing its enduring position in American culture and its significance in shaping the course of western expansion. Ultimately, this book offers valuable insights into the transformative power of this rugged trail and the ways in which it shaped both the individual lives of those who journeyed west and the destiny of the nation as a whole. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
