ABOUT The War in the Air is an official history of the Royal Air Force's (RAF) role in World War I, written by Sir Walter Raleigh and H.A. Jones. The series, published between 1922 and 1937, chronicles the development of the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) and Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS), their operations on various fronts, and the establishment of the RAF. It details everything from early air raids and naval operations to the Western Front campaigns and the fight against German East Africa. The history was a massive undertaking based on official records from the Air Ministry, personal accounts, and expert contributions. The project was started by Sir Walter Raleigh, who died after completing the first volume. The task was then taken over by H.A. Jones to complete the remaining volumes.
