Softcover. Condizione: VG+. Final Edition. Tan wraps. 240 pp. 115 bw repros. Catalogue lists 317 works by these prolific artists. Some are quite thoroughly annotated. Brief biographical sketches of each of the artists: Charles Willson Peale (1741-1827), James Peale (1749-1831), and Rembrandt Peale (1778-1860). Published to accompany the exhibition held in Philadelphia, PA: PAFA, Apr. 11 to May 9, 1923. Wilfred Jordan is credited with writing the facts about most of the sitters prtrayed, so it can reasonably be surmised that he also wrote the three fbrief biographies of the painters.

Soft cover. Condizione: Good. Ph. B Wallace (Photographer) (illustratore). 1st Edition. Here is the "Catalogue of Works of Portraits and Other Works of Art to be Found in Independence Hall, Philadelphia". Quite scarce, this small paperback catalogue was issued in 1915, with the copyright being registered to Wilfred Jordan and Carl Magee Kneass. Any photographs in the book were taken by Ph. B. Wallace. There is no place of publication given, nor is there a publisher. Lacking that one must presume the gentlemen who took out the copyright took on the task of writing the book, and the place of publication falls by failure of any such designation to Philadelphia. The book was published under the aegis of The Descendants of the Signers of "The Declaration of Independence". The printer was the Press of George H. Buchanan Company, Philadelphia. The rear cover has a picture, printed in blue, of a medal given out by The Descendants of the Signers of "The Declaration of Independence" TITLE : Catalogue of the Portraits and Other Works of Art: Independence Hall, Philadelphia, with a Short Historical Sketch of the Buildings Comprising the State House Row / also: "The James Sharpless Collection of Portraits in Pastel" AUTHOR : Not Credited [ but, likely : Wilfred Jordan (1874 - 1959), & Carl Magee Kneass (1860 - 1947) ] Jordan was Curator of Independence Hall. Carl Kneass was the son of Col. Napoleon Bonaparte Kneass (1818 - 1888) Kneass was Colonel of the Seventh Regiment, Pennsylvania Division and served in the field of combat. Carl Magee Kneass was Secretary & also President of the DSDI (Descendants of the Signers of the "Declaration of Independence"). PHOTOGRAPHS : Ph. B. Wallace. (Phillip B. Wallace was a well-known photographer of the city of Philadelphia, focusing on the architectural history and general layout of that city.) IMPRINT : Not given [Descendants of the Signers of the "Declaration of Independence"] PRINTER : Press of George H. Buchanan Company (Philadelphia) EDITION : First Edition (No earlier printings are extant) PLACE : Philadelphia DATE : (1915) DETAILS Small paperback; approx. 4 1/2 x 6 5/8" (approximate 18mo); printed matte wraps, with lettering in blue on front, and a picture of a medal on the rear cover (also printed in blue); binding is stapled (2 staples) and glued; contains over over 50 monochrome illustrations, most of them portraits, some of them photographs; 188 pages. CONDITION -- GOOD PLUS -- This is a previously owned book that remains clean and presentable, with the following particulars noted : EXTERIOR -- The paper used for the cover is somewhat brittle. Cover displays various effects of handling (a bit of smudging, some spotting , etc. - the rear cover has a couple of spots which are of a rust color (one looks like it could have been from a paperclip, but there is no clip impression; corner tips display small loss; cover edges have various small nicks and tears; spine extremities display a touch of abrasion, with just a bit of paper loss (hardly egregious). The front cover title and rear cover picture display clearly. The text-block edges are weathered and a bit toned, else clear of marking. This copy was not owned by a library. BINDING -- Solid - tight. The cover seems firmly attached. INTERIOR -- Pictures display nicely; paper is lightly toned. There are likely a few tiny spots or smudges, but upon perusal, I did not see any; the whole seems clean and presentable.
