Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. The large-scale use of semantic transfer and inversion as rhetorical tactics is particularly prevalent in right-wing discourses and populist ?alternative knowledge? production. The contributors to this volume analyze processes of re-semanticizing received meanings, effectually re-coding those meanings. To what extent do rhetorical maneuvers serve to establish new and powerful belief systems beyond rational and democratic control? In addition to the New Right and contemporary conspiracy narratives, the contributors examine the discursive fields around conceptions of human nature and the deep past, population politics, gender conceptions, use of land, identity politics, nationhood, and cultural heritage. Cutting-edge analyses of populist and counterhegemonic rhetorics in political discourse. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Summary:"Focusing on the nexus of global, regional, and national dynamics in Southeast Asia, Jorn Dosch explores the profound political changes that have occurred in recent years, both within the region and within its international relations." "Dosch first examines the realm of foreign policy, with an emphasis on the link between democratization and the conduct of foreign affairs. Subsequent chapters consider the origins of insurgencies and terrorism, responses to national and international security threats, and the increasing importance of subregional cooperation. The efforts of the international donor community to promote good governance are highlighted, as is ASEAN's inability to respond to new international challenges. The book concludes with an assessment of the region's current geostrategic position and the new contours of its relations with the United States and the countries of Europe and East Asia."--Jacket.

Soft cover. Condizione: Fine. 160 pp., bibliography. The Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), comprising China (Yunnan Province), Burma/Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, is among the most dynamic subregional cooperation schemes in the world. The GMS covers some 2.3 million square km and a population of about 245 million. For many decades, if not centuries, explorers, traders and more recently, politicians have seen the Mekong valley as a natural geographic region whose peoples not only shared the resources of this mighty river as well as some distinctive cultural features. Most observers tend to stress economic incentives as the Mekong states' main motivation in intensifying subregional cooperation. However, it must be acknowledged that non-traditional security (i.e. the broad area of comprehensive security covering non-military areas such as human security, economic security and environmental security) has been an equally if not more important dimension. This book deals with these manifold aspects of cooperation in the GMS from the perspectives of both academics and practitioners. Most chapters go beyond observing and analysing subregional cooperation by formulating specific recommendations to efficiently and effectively address existing problems and challenges. 0.0.
