Zschr. 126, 2017, p. 282) - Die Publikation dieser Erklärung der (tridentinischen, sog. 1570er) 'Liturgia sacra' erfolgte mitten in der für die Schweiz politisch, kulturell und konfessionell spannungsgeladenen Regenerationszeit (1830-1848) : "Die Epoche war geprägt von umfassenden liberalen Reformen und wirtschaftlicher Modernisierung mit einer zunehmend von konfessionellen Gegensätzen überlagerten Polarisierung zwischen Liberalen und Radikalen auf der einen sowie Konservativen auf der anderen Seite" (HLS). Sich verschärfende ideologische Auseinandersetzungen begannen zu dominieren: "In der Schweiz reichen die Wurzeln des Kulturkampfs bis in die Aufklärung und die Helvetische Republik zurück. Die entscheidende Polarisierung erfolgte jedoch in der Regeneration mit dem Aufkommen des politischen und weltanschaulichen Liberalismus während der 1830er Jahre" (HLS). Der materialistisch und rationalistisch auftretende Liberalismus bedrohte vor allem die romtreue katholische Kirche mit ihren Traditionen, Grundsätzen, Werten sowie einer autoritätsgläubigen, zur (Volks-) Frömmigkeit neigenden Anhängerschaft. - Die Autoren scheinen tief bewegt von den herrschenden Spannungen, so dass sie ihr Werk auch unter diesen Eindrücken als Erklärung und Rechtfertigung der katholischen Lehre und Riten positionieren, wie dem sehr eingehenden 'Vor- und Fürwort zur gesammten Liturgie (das nicht überschlagen werden darf)' zu entnehmen ist (pp. III-LXXII) : "Wir leben gewiß in einer Zeit, in welcher die sogenannte Weisheit der Welt und Unglaube, Aberwiz und Unsinn frech ihr Haupt erheben, und wenn möglich noch kühnere Fortschritte machen möchten. In diesen Tagen scheint beinahe über alle Zweige der Gelehrsamkeit und Wissenschaft ein gefährlicher Geist der übertriebenen Zweifel- und Tadelsucht sich verbreitet zu haben [.]: daher erscheinen uns [.] als vorzügliches Zeichen unserer Zeit ein Verlachen, Bespötteln und wohl gar ein Verachten alles Religiösen, und zumal der Gebräuche und der hl. Anstalten unserer christ-katholischen [i.e. röm.-kath.] Kirche. Natürlich - 'denn so wie Seele und Körper, so stehen auch Geist und Form, oder unsichtbarer Zweck und die sichtbaren Hilfsmittel in unzertrennlicher Verbindung'; - schreibet der gelehrte [Carl Ludwig von] Haller in seiner Restauration der Staatswissenschaft." (p.
