Orig. published in 1964, this is a Book Club Edition (BCE) of the 1973 revision, in which the black Oompa-Loompas were redrawn amidst concerns about racism. In 178 pages + About the Author in rear, this hardcover has tan cloth over boards brightly stamped with an image of Charlie at the gates of the Wonka estate in purple & rust to front board, same color lettering to spine. Condition is VG-: extremely clean, but significantly foxed to all outside edges of text block, with lighter spots & mild tanning to interior pages, which are otherwise completely unmarked. Very mild bumping to corners & both ends of spine. The unclipped DJ is Fair-Good, with many small chips, soiling, & rubbing; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover free! Small quarto has quarter brown cloth over boards covered with creamy white paper, title blindstamped to center front, faded gilt lettering to spine. Condition is VG: quite clean, pages creamy white & completely unmarked save for a spattering of foxing to top outside edges of text block, old La Jolla bookstore sticker inside back cover. Binding strong & straight, hinges secure. Exterior shows modest rubbing & slight darkening to extremities, with slight, shallow chips to bottom edge of front board. The partially clipped DJ (price intact) is just Good, showing yellowing, light soil & spotting, & some areas of mild chipping; nicely protected in new mylar cover free (removed for photo accuracy).
