Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fair. 1st Edition. Description Joseph Wortis's substantial survey of psychiatry in the Soviet Union, published in 1950 during the early Cold War. Wortis, a psychiatrist and Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at New York University College of Medicine, examines Soviet approaches to psychiatry, neurology, psychoanalysis, psychology, mental hospitals, treatment, and psychiatric theory. Wortis had unusual firsthand familiarity with Soviet psychiatry and psychology and later became well known as the founding editor of the journal Soviet Psychology and Psychiatry. This early volume offers an important historical snapshot of Soviet psychiatric theory and practice shortly after World War II and at the beginning of the Cold War. Published by Williams & Wilkins in Baltimore in 1950. Detailed Condition Very Good hardcover in a heavily worn Poor to Fair dust jacket. Book appears structurally sound with a firm binding and generally clean interior. Pages show expected age toning. Front endpaper bears a handwritten gift inscription beginning "To Stephen…" and dated "Xmas 1957." This appears to be a previous-owner or presentation inscription; I would not identify it as the author's signature based on the photographs alone. Original dust jacket is present but substantially worn, with extensive rubbing, soiling, edge wear, creasing, tears and considerable chipping/loss at the spine ends and corners. Jacket is fragile but remains recognizable and preserves its striking newspaper-collage design. Shipping / Returns Books are carefully packed in sturdy boxes and shipped with tracking. Returns accepted in accordance with AbeBooks policies. PSYCH 5a.…
