Condizione: Trade paperback, New. New York: Hippocampus Press:, 2023. Trade paperback, New, 167 pp. Cover artwork by: Dan Sauer "H. P. Lovecraft is distinctive for having inspired a plethora of poetic tributes from friends, colleagues, and disciples. These tributes emerged surprisingly early; the first ones date to 1918, when se…veral amateur writers took note of the unique characteristics of Lovecraft's life and work. During his lifetime, Samuel Loveman, Frank Belknap Long, Robert E. Howard, Donald Wandrei, and others sought to portray Lovecraft's inimitable personality and his innovative work in wide-ranging verse. After Lovecraft's early death in 1937, other writers-Clark Ashton Smith, August Derleth, R.H. Barlow, Joseph Payne Brennan, Lilith Lorraine-paid homage to him in odes, quatrains, and sonnets. The tradition has continued to the present day, with such contemporary writers as Ann K. Schwader, Leigh Blackmore, Wade German, W. H. Pugmire, Adam Bolivar, Fred Phillips, and countless others envisioning the myriad phases of Lovecraft's creative work in poetry that itself evokes the terror and pathos of his writing.". Condizione: Trade paperback, New. New York: Hippocampus Press:, 2025. Trade paperback, New, 310 pp. Cover artwork by: Dan Sauer "The sixth issue of Penumbra features a wealth of fiction by leading contemporary writers of weird fiction. Indian writer Aditya Dwarkesh offers a Ligottian tale of psychological aberration, while Austr…alian Dmitri Akers provides a grim wartime story that veers into the supernatural. Other tales, long and short, by Manuel Arenas, Maureen O'Leary, Mark Howard Jones, and Joshua Green enliven the issue. Among the articles, Mario Sánchez Gumiel contributes a profound analysis of the Spanish writer Pompeu Gener, whose work shows analogies with Lovecraft, Machen, and other leading weird writers. John C. Tibbetts supplies a broad overview of the weird work of English writer Saki (H.H. Munro), while John P. Irish continues his study of the work of Fitz-James O'Brien, comparing it with that of Poe and Dickens. This issue incorporates reviews of contemporary weird volumes, including Katherine Kerestman's sensitive review of Machen's autobiographical writings, Karen Joan Kohoutek's assessment of recent books relating to William Hope Hodgson, Kyla Lee Ward's study of the weird stories of Leigh Blackmore, and Peter Cannon's judgment on the correspondence of H.P. Lovecraft and Frank Belknap Long. The popular column "Ramsey's Rant," by Ramsey Campbell, is also included.". Dan Sauer (illustratore).

Condizione: Trade paperback, New. New York: Hippocampus Press:, 2025. Trade paperback, New, 347 pp. Cover artwork by: Dan Sauer "The motif of witches and witchcraft is a venerable one in weird fiction, chiefly because the witchcraft panic of the Middle Ages and Renaissance permanently embedded the theme into European society. In… this new and expansive anthology, Katherine Kerestman and S.T. Joshi have not only unearthed great stories and poems, old and new, about witches, but also chronicled the witch-hunts that resulted in the unjust deaths of hundreds of thousands of suspected witches over many centuries. . . . This volume features original stories and poems on witches and witchcraft by such leading contemporary writers as John Shirley, Darrell Schweitzer, Wade German, Stephen Mark Rainey, Debra K. Every, and many others who exhibit the continuing power of this motif. Also included are distinctive illustrations from witch-hunting manuals, which reveal the twisted mentalities of self-appointed witch-hunters as they targeted innocent people in their vicious crusade.". Dan Sauer (illustratore).
