La cava di Guatiza costituisce uno dei più significativi progetti dell'artista César Manrique (1919-1992) per Lanzarote, realizzato lavorando nel suolo dell'isola con le modalità proprie della sua storia e dei suoi abitanti: costruire terrazzamenti, stendere superfici di terra vulcanica, elevare strutture in pietra per la protezione del vento, coltivare, in questo caso, una collezione di migliaia di cactus disposti con gusto teatrale per la gioia degli abitanti e degli ospiti dell'isola.
