Sie zeigen das Potential des 'Middle Ground' Konzeptes in der Analyse des antiken Nahen Osten, sind aber auch offen für andere Ideen zur kulturellen Interaktion in einer sich wandelnden Welt. Denn Eroberungen und Expansion dominanter Gemeinschaften, wie der hellenistischen Monarchien oder des Römischen Reiches, schufen einen Bedarf an lokalen Partnern, die ihre Position zur Aushandlung eines Verständigungsrahmens nutzten, auch wenn es dabei immer wieder zu Missverständnissen kam.
