Aus diesem Grund wird eine Studie über die statistische Kompetenz und ihre Komponenten bei zukünftigen Mathematiklehrern vorgestellt. Diese Arbeit wurde in Form einer quantitativen Untersuchung durchgeführt. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass künftige Mathematiklehrer die grundlegenden Konzepte der Statistik nicht beherrschen. Sie verfügen nicht über die instrumentellen Kenntnisse der Statistik, die für ihre Anwendung in der Praxis erforderlich sind, was sich in den festgestellten konzeptionellen Fehlern widerspiegelt: fehlerhafte Anwendung von Eigenschaften, Nichtbeachtung der Wirkung eines Ausreißers bei der Berechnung des Mittelwerts, Unfähigkeit zu erkennen, wann ein Wert in einem bestimmten Kontext ein Ausreißer ist, Nichtbeherrschung der Interpretation eines Diagramms und seiner Verbindung mit dem Konzept des arithmetischen Mittels.
