Inspired by a drawing made by the famous neurologist Oliver Sacks representing the physiological organization of migraines, Tan created a system of "open walls" for viewers to navigate. Her attention to "the intersection between the nervous system and interior life as a way of examining how art operates, uncertainty, and the formation of the self" is deepened in the publication thanks to the essays of three authors whose work has affected Tan's thinking.Psychoanalyst Charlotta Björklind and artist Asier Mendizabal analyze the overlapping of inner and outer life, the misalignment of subjective experience from representations of it, and negotiations between mind and brain, while the narration of writer Haytham el-Wardany meditates on the breath between words.Throughout the book, at the top of the pages, runs a transcription of the voice-over monologue from Tan's video Dodge and Burn (2021-23).

Since his breakthrough in the late 1990s, Tom Friedman has become one of the most influential artists of our times by transforming everyday objects such as toothpicks, toilet paper, hair and sugar cubes into extraordinary works of art. This book gives unique insight into the making of Up in the Air, the largest artwork Friedman has made to date for a solo exhibition at Magasin 3 Stockholm Konsthall in 2010. It features an essay by Charlotte Eyerman, art historian, curator and a leading authority in modern and contemporary art, and an exclusive interview with Tom Friedman by Richard Julin, Ccurator and deputy director of Magasin 3 Stockholm Konsthall. This astonishing work of art consists of nearly a thousand meticulously handcrafted objects suspended from the ceiling at different heights - a project that kept Friedman's studio busy for over two years. Up in the Air invites the observer to enter into Friedman's complex and humorous world. Carefully navigating through the multitude of objects suspended at different heights, one can discover references to popular culture, science, politics and religion. By posing fundamental philosophical questions, Friedman aims to "slow down the process of looking" in a world of information overload. Libro.
Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. A monograph devoted to the original Swedish artist and composer. This book is published on the occasion of the extensive solo exhibition by Christine OEdlund (the first large institutional presentation of her work in Sweden). Since the first solo exhibition at the alternative art space Ynglingagatan 1 in Stockholm in 1995, OEdlund has continued to create unique encounters between art, science and music. Her artistic practice includes a wide range of media including drawing, painting, sculpture, animation, installations with living plants, electroacoustic music, and more. OEdlund's artworks draw inspiration from fields such as theosophy, synesthesia and biology. For example, she has researched how plants, specifically stinging nettles, interact and communicate with one another at the Royal Institute of Technology's Department of Organic Chemistry in Stockholm. During the course of this exhibition, OEdlund will expand her study of sensory reactions, to a greater variety of plant species. The exhibition will present new sculptures, works on paper, and video works alongside large-scale site-specific installations with live plants that visitors will be able to step into. These various elements combine to create an all-encompassing experience. In what could be seen as a laboratory that cross-references science and esoteric knowledge, OEdlund opens up a holistic world where detailed studies of natural phenomena can be seen from very different perspectives. Since the first solo exhibition at the alternative art space Ynglingagatan 1 in Stockholm in 1995, Odlund has continued to create unique encounters between art, science and music. This book is devoted to this Swedish artist and composer. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
