Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. Erasmus of Rotterdam is not typically associated with the discipline of philosophy. Yet, he would himself employ the category of philosophia Christi in the sense of authentic Christianity which had not been contaminated by the abstractness and pedanticism of paganized mediaeval scholasticism. Does this reveal a contrarian attitude to philosophy in general or rather a special understanding of what a "true" philosophy as a way of life should be? This study attempts to answer this question by assembling and closely studying from Erasmus extensive oeuvre his scant and occasional remarks on the concept of philosophy. Did Erasmus of Rotterdam reject all philosophy, or rather did he have a very special understanding of it as, at its best, a way of life? This study attempts to answer this question. The work reconstructs his concept of philosophy. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.…

Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. Juliusz Domanski, whose book Le texte comme presence was published recently in our series, wrote his doctoral thesis (printed in 1966) on Fannietum, a cycle of amatory elegies by Filippo Buonaccorsi (Callimachus), a humanist exiled from Italy who settled in Poland and exerted influence on the development of the Polish Renaissance. The thesis, written in admirable Latin, discusses Callimachus' use of the works of ancient Latin elegiac poets. Due to a lack of paper, the last two chapters were omitted from the book and printed in a journal as recently as 2014. The present book contains the whole of the dissertation as well as the text of Fannietum to which the author constantly refers. Danilo Facca, Institute of Philosophy and sociology of Polish Academy of Sciences, Poland The book is devoted to Fannietum, a cycle of amatory elegies by Filippo Buonaccorsi (Callimachus), a humanist exiled from Italy who settled in Poland and exerted an important influence on development of Polish Renaissance.
