Junius prophesised early that the colonies eventual aim would be independence. This is an oversized or heavy book, which requires additional postage for international delivery outside the US.

Provenance: Owners presentation plate in Vol. I. From the famous architect, Ambrose Lyon Poynter's library by his son, the famous painter, Edward Poynter to James Stilwell, Esq, 1886. Ambrose Poynter's nameslip to each front pastedown. Owners pencil notation to first two blanks on Vol. I. Junius was the pseudonym of a writer who contributed a series of political letters to London's newspaper, Public Advertiser, from 21 January 1769 to 21 January 1772 as well as several other London newspapers such as the London Evening Post. The Letters of Junius had a definite objective: (1) to inform the public of their historical and constitutional rights and liberties as Englishmen; and to highlight where and how the government had infringed upon these rights. Because of the letters, charges were brought against several people, of whom two were convicted and sentenced.
