Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. Dive into the annals of the Val de Sainte Aldegonde Chartreuse, an iconic French monastery founded in the 13th century. This book presents an exhaustive collection of 715 meticulously transcribed charters and legal documents spanning 150 years of the monastery's history. Spanning the period from its inception to 1539, these documents offer an unparalleled window into the daily life, privileges, and struggles of this significant religious institution. Beyond its historical value, this book provides insights into the broader context of medieval monasticism, shedding light on the social, economic, and legal framework that shaped religious life in the Middle Ages. The author has painstakingly analyzed the documents, extracting the names of individuals, families, and ecclesiastical figures associated with the monastery, providing a rich tapestry of personal histories and connections. Through meticulous study of these charters, the book explores the themes of land tenure, financial administration, and the complex relationship between the monastery and the surrounding community. The author's careful examination of the monastery's relationship with the authorities, both ecclesiastical and secular, underscores the delicate balance that religious institutions had to maintain in medieval society. This meticulously researched and annotated collection is an invaluable resource for scholars, historians, and anyone interested in the intricate workings of medieval monasticism. It provides a unique opportunity to witness the evolution of a prominent religious institution over time, and to gain a deeper understanding of the role that monasteries played in shaping the social and cultural landscape of medieval Europe. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
