A historical chronicle of Egypt and the Mamluk sultanate called al-Nujum al-zahira fi muluk Misr wa l-Qahira. It begins with the Islamic conquest of Egypt and continues until just before the author s death. Ibn Taghribirdi was the son of a leading Mamluk amir and in effect he suceeded al- Ayni as court historian. Despite Ibn Taghribirdi s criticisms of al- Maqrizi, the early sections of his own chronicle depend quite heavily on the Suluk . The Nujum was initially written for Muhammad, son of the reigning sultan Jaqmaq. This chronicle was fiercely hostile to astrologers and delights in recording their failed predictions. His style is annalistic and gives precise dates for most events; this format makes it clear that Ibn Taghribirdi had privileged access to the sultans and their records. Ships from U.A.E.…
