Detmold. 4to, publisher's original blue cloth, the upper cover and spine lettered and decorated in black, in the scarce pictorial dustjacket. 104 pp. An elusive title, the toning and spotting to which the book is prone is at a minimum, the cloth with minor mellowing at the extremities, the scarce dustjacket with some chipping and edgewear but still bright and attractive. A very uncommon title by Detmold and an exquisite collection of his animal illustrations. The plates include, The Superior Cat, Mrs. Hen and Her Family, The Fairy Squirrel and Mice, Plain and Fancy. Eleven farm and woodland friends are described and painted in total making this book a lovely addition to a children's illustrated library. These bright paintings of baby animals are some of Detmold's most endearing and timeless illustrations.

Quarto hardcovber in paper covered boards lettered in gilt and with round tipped on color illustration of a fawn, over white cloth spine also lettered in gilt. 104 pp. With eeven full page plates featuring tipped on color image of each animal features, surrounded by gilt border. A tight example, some staining to the lower right corener of the front board, smaller stain top right corner; some light discoloration to the rear board. Closed slice to the spine strip. Interior clean and plates bright. Some shelf wear to the edges.
