Prima edizione
Paperback. Condizione: Near Fine. First Edition. First Printing. A NEAR FINE, bright, clean, tight, scholar/collector-worthy copy. "The essays in this collection, written over the past 25 years by one of the nation's most prominent theoreticians, claim persuasively that aesthetics not only 'can' serve as a foundation for theory and practice in art education, but that it 'must'. Dr. Kaelin's argument for the primacy of aesthetics encompasses such pertinent and diverse issues as: the history of aesthetics, aesthetic literacy, the vital importance of arts instruction, teacher preparation, and phenomenological methodologies." 231 pages. "This book is an important text for graduate students in philosophy and history of art education courses, and will appeal to art education curriculum specialists, aestheticians interested in art education, and philosophers of both art and education." Aggiungi al carrelloCondizione: very good. Ed. by Ellen J. Burns. Amsterdam & Atlanta, GA: Rodopi,1999. Paperback. XX,230 pp. (Value Inquiry Book Series 79). Texts on Texts and Textuality argues the case for an American phenomenology as applied to works of literary artworks. The argument is made by a surrounding frame (the Preface and the Afterword) that encloses ten chapters. The chapters are divided into two parts: the phenomenological theory and practical criticism. In making his case, Kaelin traces the development in the American academic tradition from the American New Criticism through structuralism to the French nouvelle critique. He calls his theory "phenomenological structuralism," and shows its derivation from American pragmatism (contextualism) to an unabashed phenomenology through the criticisms of Roman Ingarden, Martin Heidegger, and Paul Ricoeur. The structuralism derives from the work of Ferdinand de Saussure, as incorporated into the philosophical linguistics of Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Part II contains five chapters, each concerned with either direct application of the theory in acts of criticism, or in the metacriticism of accepted critical theories, such as the Aristotelians of early dramatic critics (Chapter 6), or of applied procedures in recent academic critical circles (Chapter 10). The argument is concluded in the author's Afterword, where pedagogical issues are introduced to suggest the future applicability of the theory. Condition : very good copy. ISBN 9789042006652. Keywords : PHILOSOPHY, philosophy.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - In the wake of so many other keys to the treasure, whoever undertakes still another book of criticism on the novels and drama of Samuel Beckett must assume the grave burden of justifying the attempt, especially for him who like one of John Barth's recent fictional characterizations of himself, believes that the key to the treasure is the treasure itself. No one will ever have the privilege of the last word on these texts, since any words other than the author's own found therein must be referred back to the text themselves for cautious verification. Indeed, the words the author has used to create the oeuvre stand by virtue of their own creativeness, or fail in their pretense, and need no critical comment to be appreciated for what they have achieved or have failed to achieve. In criticism there is no privileged point of view - not even the author's own. He has consulted his knowledge and experience to make the work, and whoever would criticize his efforts would seem to owe him the indulgence of doing the same. If communication is mediated through the works, the author and his readers respond in recipro cal fashion to the expressiveness of their contexts. For the philosopher of art, the challenge is extremely tempting - on a manifold count.
