Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book is a chronicle of reminiscences of a group of hard-living, hard-drinking friends recounting tales of their carefree camaraderie and exploits. It takes place in New York City during the years just before and after the passage of the 18th Amendment, which began Prohibition. These men are well-heeled and seem to spend much of their time attending dinners, club meetings, and gambling. Although the stories are told in the 1920s, the authorâs wry sense of humor and colorful language give a timeless feel to the tales. The author himself, a raconteur and one of the friends in the group, offers a wry social commentary of the time, as well as humorous and insightful looks at their escapades. His stories, ranging from tales of practical jokes gone wrong to drunken adventures, are a reminder that people have not changed all that much in 100 years, and that having fun with friends is a pleasure that transcends the ages. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
