The back-up trombonists include Urbie Green and Jimmy Cleveland, bass trombonists Bart Varsalone and Tom Mitchell, with Hank Jones piano, Milt Hinton bass, and Osie Johnson drums. J.J Johnson and Kai Winding here introduce the trombonium, an upright valve trombone, as the octet offers Dizzy Gillespie's "Night in Tunisia," "The Continental," "You're My Thrill," and Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Surrey With the Fringe On Top," others. (Although small photo to bottom of rear panel surely indicates J.J. Johnson was of the African-American persuasion -- as we suspect Jimmy Cleveland was, as well -- Arnold Roth's art to front panel for some reason shows eight white guys.
