Aggiungi al carrelloCanidia dorri Wattebled, 1886, described from Kao-hai Lagoon (near Hue, Vietnam) but until now known only from its original description, was rediscovered in lower parts of rivers at Phan Ri, central Vietnam. Examination of morphology and radula of the species revealed, that it should be allocated to the family Nassariidae and, according to shell morphology, to the genus Nassodonta H. Adams, 1867. This is the first confirmed record of genus Nassodonta outside Indian waters. The only other Asian species of the family Nassariidae known to inhabit fresh or brackish waters were found in Lake Chilka and other backwater areas in India. 6 pp., 21 figs, 4.…

Aggiungi al carrelloBabylonia Schlüter, 1838 is a conchologically distinctive and commercially important genus of neogastropods traditionally assigned to the family Buccinidae. External morphology and anatomy of several species of Babylonia have been studied in detail for the first time. All studied the species of this genus posses an unpaired accessory salivary gland, and two of six studied species (B. areolata and B. iaponica) have a rectal gland. The radula of all species is distintive and differs markedly from that of any buccinoidean in having cusps along the outer edges of the rachidian teeth, and in the morphology of the three strongly buttressed central cusps, which emanate from the anterior edge of the basal plate. Cladistic analyses of anatomical data as well as of partial DNA sequences of the cytochrome c oxidase I gene revealed that the genus Babylonia is not closely related to Buccinoidea, but has close affinities to the volutoidean families Volutidae and Olividae. More detailed comparisons that include a broader representation of volutoidean families will be required to more precisely determine the sister group relationship of the family Babyloniidae Kuroda, Habe and Oyama, 1971. 18 pp., 10 figs, 4.…

Aggiungi al carrelloA new genus, Parabuccinum, is established for four bathyal Magellanic species, of which one, Parabuccinum rauscherti, is described as new. The remaining three species were originally described in the Antarctic genus Chlanidota, from which they differ in the morphology of their protoconch, operculum, radula, stomach, and male reproductive system. Parabuccinum appears to be most closely related to the monotypic circumAntarctic genus Neobuccinum, but may be distinguished on the basis of shell and penis morphology, as well as by the size and shape of the gland of Leiblein. Parabuccinum is endemic to the Magellanic Province, and is the first record of the subfamily Bucinulinae in the malacofauna of this region. New taxon: Parabuccinum rauscherti n. sp. 19 pp., 12 figs, gr. 8. …

Aggiungi al carrelloThe monograph summarizes information on taxonomy, nomenclature, distribution and some aspects of bionomics of molluscs of the former USSR fresh and brackish waters. This 'Analytical Catalogue' is a deeply improved and updated version of two previously published catalogue works (Yu. I. Kantor, A. V. Sysoev "Catalogue of mollusks of Russia and adjacent countries", 2002, in Russian; and Yu. I. Kantor, M. V. Vinarski, A. A. Shileyko, A. V. Sysoev "Catalogue of the continental mollusks of Russia and adjacent territories", 2010). In total, the data of 424 nominal species of Bivalvia and 728 nominal species of Gastropoda are included into this book. The actual species richness of aquatic continental molluscs of the former USSR perhaps is significantly lower since validity of many of these nominal species may be questioned and a portion of them is destined to be synonymized in future. During preparation of the book the authors tried to take into account different views on systematization of the ex-USSR aquatic molluscs and to find some correspondence between the 'Russian' system (founded in 1960-1970s by Ya. I. Starobogatov) and the approach followed by malacologists wrorking outside Russia. Current approaches to the 'species problem' in malacology are briefly discussed. Also, the catalogue includes information about distribution of all molluscan species among large regions of the former USSR area, some data about invasions of alien species and the conservation status of indigenous taxa in accordance with IUCN Red List criteria. The quantitative estimates of faunistic similarity between aquatic malacofaunas of the ex-USSR large regions and the results of the cluster analysis carried out on the basis of these estimates are also provided. 543 pp., 5 figs, 22 tabs, hc gr. 8. …
