Libro
Softcover. Bw-photographic wraps with orange spine. 96 pages with 75 photo reproductions. "Our particular exploration of vernacular photography began with the ideas that developed into the exhibition In the Vernacular: everyday photographs from the Rodger Kingston Collection, on view at the Boston University Art Gallery from November 5, 2004 to January 23, 2005. The exhibition was the first to highlight fully the exceptional breadth and variety of the Rodger Kingston Collection. Since the 1970s, Kingston has assembled a vast collection of visually striking images, primarily by anonymous photographers . This publication includes an even smaller selection of 70 key images . In making our selections to signify the many types of photographs at play in our everyday existence, we were able to pick particularly rich and engaging examples. The types of images and objects reproduced will be familiar to the contemporary viewer: snapshots, wedding photographs, news and advertising images, family pictures, travel albums, school portraits, pin-ups, calendars, identification badges, photo buttons, and even a photographic bandana."--Preface. VG+ but art school ex-lib. with usual marks; covers heat-sealed in plastic.

Libro Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fine. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing. Hardcover. Black cloth-covered boards with title blind-stamped on cover and stamped in silver on spine, with photographically illustrated dust jacket. Photographs by Lewis Hine. Text by Daile Kaplan. Includes a bibliography and index. Designed by Stephanie Bart-Horvath. 240 pp., with 67 black and white plates and 38 additional black and white illustrations. 9-1/2 x 10-1/2 inches. Fine in Fine dust jacket. From the publisher: "In World War I, Hine became a photographer for the Red Cross, assigned to record the devastation in Europe and to document the need for relief work. In the spring and summer of 1918 he photographed war refugees and hospitalized soldiers in France.and in November he toured war torn Italy, Greece and Serbia. Hine returned to Paris and then set out again to document the suffering in formerly German-occupied areas of Belgium and northern France. Some of these pictures appeared in Red Cross publications, but most of them went into [their] archives, never to be seen again for sixty years. At the end of World War II, the Red Cross deposited its photograph collection--some 50,000 pictures--in the Library of Congress, where Hine's work was effectively 'lost' due to an eccentric filing code that baffled historians for nearly forty years. Daile Kaplan finally was able to break the code, identify Hine's photographs, and reintroduce to the world the best of this master's 'lost' photographs.".
