Zdenek Pe ánek edited the series Aktuality budování (Building Now), collaborating with Karel Teige. This series and a few letters between Teige and Pe ánek kept in the Czech Museum of Literature s literary archive are the only proof that these two did in fact collaborate on projects. (All published) Doba (The Age) may have been, as Eric Dluhosch puts it in his major biography of Teige, a mouthpiece for the surrealist group in Prague, but it also served as an outlet for the Cultural Left with numerous international contributors, with articles by Breton, Crével, Eluard, Dalí, Lunacharsky, Pudovkin, etc. from abroad, and entries from Czech writers on all the arts, including Styrsky, Nezval, Novomesky, Kalandra, and Weiss, inter alia. It did not shy away from politics, and Julius Fucik was a contributor. Graphics are by Georg Grosz, Adolf Hoffmeister. Oldrich Nouza, Alfred Justitz, Dmitry Moor; architecture by Aleksandr Vesnin, Jirí Kroha, and other designers. Contributors include recently self-exiled German poets and musicians, and many writing from the Soviet Union, and of course numerous articles and notes by Teige. Topics were treated in a global perspective. Twenty numbers appeared in fifteen fascicles. The present set is bound in ½-cloth. This is the redacted version after confiscation which was released to the public after censoring parts of the Olbracht essay, and has "Po konfiskace opravené vydání" printed on the cover. This booklet was printed free of charge by a comrade from the print shop of Grafie in Prague and was distributed to the public, which treated it as newsprint. OCLC locates two North American institutional holdings of the later release (Harvard, Yale); not found in NKC. It is overall near fine with the fragile cover reinforced professionally. Teige 31.
