Magazine. 84p. including covers 8.5x11 inches, articles, features, reviews, listings, illustrated with b&w photos and ads, wraps worn, old price sticker on front wrap, a few small stains on rear wrap, else very good semi-glossy entertainment magazine in stapled pictorial wraps. Ringling Bros & Barnum & Bailey Circus. "Death in Venice" fashions. Sally Kellerman pre and post-"M.A.S.H." Interview with twin playwrights Anthony and Peter Shaffer. The numbering of the volumes is illogical in the beginning years up to about 1971. "After Dark" was originally "Ballroom Dance Magazine" which ended with its volume 9, #4. The new magazine's first issue continued the numbering of the previous magazine and so issue #1 is stated as volume 10, #1. By the third year of the magazine they changed the numbering from volume 13 to volume 3, #9. A fine magazine of arts, stage, dance and music that bridged the gap between gay and straight readers in the 1970s-80s.

Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book examines a method for eliminating two significant water contamination concerns: algae and some disease-causing bacteria. Although algae pose a threat to water sources worldwide, their impact is particularly significant in the United States, where thousands of reservoirs have been affected by these organisms. The author details the impact of algae contamination on human health, including the foul odors and tastes produced by these plants, and the economic burden associated with treating affected water supplies. The book also highlights the ineffectiveness of current solutions, such as covering reservoirs or removing organic matter, and emphasizes the crucial need for more effective methods. Drawing on extensive research and experimentation, the book demonstrates the effectiveness of copper sulfate in destroying algae and certain bacteria, even at extremely dilute concentrations. It provides practical guidance on applying this method to different types of water bodies, including small lakes, ponds, and large reservoirs. The author emphasizes that this treatment is both inexpensive and harmless to humans and animals, making it an ideal solution for water purification. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. The author, a physiologist and expert in water purification investigations, presents the findings of experiments using copper sulphate and chlorine to disinfect sewage effluents of differing purities. The experiments were conducted at water purification plants in Ohio, and the results provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of these chemicals in removing disease-causing bacteria. The book also explores the cost and infrastructure requirements for implementing these disinfection methods. The author's research contributes to the ongoing discussion on the role of sewage treatment in protecting public health and water quality, making this book an essential resource for water treatment professionals, public health officials, and environmental scientists alike. This book is an insightful exploration of farm water supplies, focusing on the environmental and sanitary conditions of wells, cisterns, and other water sources used by farmers and rural communities in Minnesota during the early 20th century. The author, a physiologist in charge of water purification investigations, and a scientific assistant, traveled to sample and test 28 dug wells, 6 bored wells, 13 drilled wells, 19 driven wells, 2 springs, 1 river, 2 surface reservoirs, and 5 cisterns, recording their location, construction, and surrounding environment. Their findings provide a unique snapshot of rural sanitation practices and the potential health hazards faced by farm families at the time. The book delves into the factors influencing water quality, including geological formations, well construction, and the proximity of potential sources of contamination such as privies, barnyards, and septic tanks. Through chemical and bacteriological analyses, the authors assess the safety of each water source and discuss the necessary improvements to protect against pollution. The book also emphasizes the importance of proper water handling and storage practices to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases. This book chronicles the water consumption of representative plant species commonly used in agricultural practices, focusing on crops grown at the same location under identical environmental conditions. The author, a biophysicist and plant physiologist, conducted a series of experiments to determine the water requirement of each plant, defined as the ratio of water absorbed during its growth to the weight of the dry matter produced, excluding the roots. The measurements were conducted in large galvanized pots covered with tight-fitting lids to minimize water loss and exclude rainfall. The results of these experiments provide valuable insights into the relative water efficiency of different plant species, which can inform crop selection and irrigation practices in regions with limited water resources. Understanding the water requirements of crops is crucial for sustainable agriculture, particularly in the face of increasing water scarcity and climate change.
