Prima edizione
Rare first appearance of mathematician Samuel Karlin and Nobel Prize-winning economist Lloyd Stowell Shapley's early work on the geometry of the moment space, a precursor to Shapley's development of von Neumann and Morgenstern's theory of games. Quarto, original wrappers, unbradded. From the collection of Lt. R.S. Weinberg with his ownership inscription to the front panel. In near fine condition. American mathematician and Nobel Prize-winning economist Lloyd Stowell Shapley is generally considered one of the most important contributors to the development of game theory since the work of von Neumann and Morgenstern. Shapley received his A.B. in mathematics from Harvard University in 1948 and subsequently worked for one year at the Rand Corporation where he collaborated on the present treatise with fellow American mathematician Samuel Karlin. The 227-page dissertation contains definitions and algebraic descriptions of the moment space, distributions of given moments and symmetries of the moment spaces.
