Nineteen stories similar to the official Arabian Nights material, gathered and in most cases translated by this Arabic author, who, in his preface, recalls listening to such stories as a youth in Damascus. He adds helpful textual and source notes for each story. A worthwhile addition to the extra-canonical literature of the Thousand and One Nights. He makes the point, well-known to Arabists and connoisseurs of this classic, that is has always been disparaged by educated Arab elites.
