Hardback. Condizione: Fine. W. M. Berger (illustratore). First Edition. Katibah, H. I. Other Arabian Nights. New York, London: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1928. First edition. Octavo, pp. [i-vi] vii-xiii [xiv] xv-xvii [xviii-xxii] [1-2] 3-266. Original red cloth, front and spine panels stamped in gold, fore-edge untrimmed, bottom edge rough-trimmed, pictorial endpapers, pictorial title page printed in red and black. Illustrated by W. M. Berger with full-color half-tones on eight inserted plates. Early owner's inscription on half-title page. A fine copy. #3432. $45. Nineteen stories similar to the official Arabian Nights material, gathered and in most cases translated by this Arabic author, who, in his preface, recalls listening to such stories as a youth in Damascus. He adds helpful textual and source notes for each story. A worthwhile addition to the extra-canonical literature of the Thousand and One Nights. He makes the point, well-known to Arabists and connoisseurs of this classic, that is has always been disparaged by educated Arab elites.
