Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. The present work is an interdisciplinary enquiry into a largely unexplored area namely the interaction of politics and literature at both theoretical and applied levels. The study interprets literature as a recorded form of culture and culture as a part of the process of domination of one segment of society over another. Thus interpreted culture is an inclusive form of power relationships and literature a legitimate and enlightening source of comprehending such relationships. Political fiction in terms of aesthetic political criticism is therefore taken up in the book as a specific datum of politico cultural perspective. 196 pp.…

Hardcover. Condizione: New. Condizione sovraccoperta: New. 1st Edition. The dominant development model, primarily conceived as a West-centric enterprise to modernize the post-colonial societies, did not realize the promised utopia of improved quality of life for all. Instead, increased poverty, economic and gender inequalities and degradation of environment have emerged as the accompanying fallouts of development policies and practices during the past half century. With this as a backdrop, the book relooks at development, particularly globalization-driven neo-liberal development, through a gender lens. Raising some basic theoretical and ideological questions, the essays address issues like economic and political empowerment, state-market-civil society interface, MDGs, challenges emanating from the socio-cultural structures/norms, gender-blind/neutral state policies, violence/armed conflicts and the sustainability of environment. The book will be valuable for researchers, teachers, students, civil society activists and policy planners engaged in framing development policies and practices. Gender inequality is pervasive worldwide and remains entrenched at various levels from intimate private realm to the highest level of public arena. Although, past decades have seen change and progress, the change has been uneven, incremental and hugely inadequate. Underneath questions of persistent inequality, subordination and exclusion of women, is the question of power and the dynamics of power imbalances disfavouring women. It is the question of power, coupled with ideology and its modus operandi in multiple forms of patriarchy. At this significant juncture in history, when we are looking forward to the 2030 agenda visualizing the final blow to gender inequality globally, it is an opportune time to have a relook at the issues involved and measures undertaken, including achievements and failures, challenges and possibilities. In a contextualized frame, the present book attempts a nuanced understanding of the issues involved. Delineating conceptual/theoretical dimensions of exclusion of women from power, entitlements and justice, the book explores the multiple facets of gender inequality vis-a-vis the state and its institutions, the vulnerability of women, dilemmas of identity, rootlessness and disempowerment and also the interlinkages between the local and the global, including pro-active role of the UN.…

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The literary activities of prominent nineteenth-century English feminists have long been a subject of great interest. During this period, writing used to be considered as inappropriate for the women but it provided them with an opportunity to carry out a literary rebellion against the deliberate marginality which they faced both as women and as writers. Excluded from social, political, and economic activities, writing remained perhaps the only way through which they could assert themselves. This work presents broad discussion of the diversity and complexity of Victorian feminism by exploring the intellectual approach and the theoretical framework of prominent Victorian feminist writers, specifically Charlotte Bronte. 72 pp. Englisch.…
