Sie haben dabei das Glück, vom sinkenden Schiff ein paar Konservendosen ergattert zu haben. Nach einer Weile beginnt ihnen langsam der Magen zu knurren, und sie merken, dass sie nichts dabei haben, um die Konservendose zu öffnen. Daraufhin beginnen diese drei Wissenschaftler sich darüber den Kopf zu zerbrechen, wie sie am besten und schnellsten die Konservendose öffnen können:Der Chemiker kam auf die Idee, die Dosen zu erhitzen, denn damit würden die Dosen zerbersten und sie könnten deren Inhalt wieder sammeln und sich damit den Hunger stillen. Der Physiker meinte, man solle die Dosen gegen die Felsen werfen. Das letzte Wort überließen sie dem Wirtschaftswissenschaftler, der auf Beschwichtigung aus war, und sagte: 'Beruhigen wir uns, nehmen wir an, uns steht ein Dosenöffner zu Verfügung.'.Die Wirtschaftswissenschaftler haben lange Zeit ihre Theorien auf der Annahme aufgebaut, ihnen stehe ein Dosenöffner zur Verfügung. Es wäre falsch zu behaupten, sie wären sich der Tatsache nicht bewusst, dass zwischen ihren aufgestellten Theorien und der gelebten, praktischen Wirklichkeit große Unterschiede bestehen. Aber diese Diskrepanz stellte für sie kein Hindernis bei ihrer Arbeit dar, sie versuchen diesen Unterschied als einen Bestandteil des Ganzen, im Rahmen der methodischen Diskussion zu erfassen. Wann immer es zur Krise in der Ökonomie kam (globale Krisen in der Weltwirtschaft bzw. Krisen in der Disziplin 'Wirtschaftswissenschaft'), wurden sie sich der Tatsache bewusst, dass ihnen ein 'Dosenöffner' fehlt.In Krisenzeiten merken wir, dass die 'Wirtschaftswissenschaft' nicht nur als abstrakter Begriff zu werten ist, sondern vielmehr einen Lösungsansatz für die Lösung der Probleme im Geflecht 'Individuum - Ökonomie - Gesellschaft' bietet.Wenn wir an diesen Punkt gelangt sind, behandeln wir die Ökonomie nicht mehr nur als 'wirtschaftliches Wissen' sondern als eine Betrachtungsweise der komplexen Beziehung von 'Individuum, Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft'.
