Hardcover. Condizione: Good+. See photos for condition details. The hardcover, no dust jacket. Blue cloth boards are fairly clean on front and back but spine is very faded and shows foxing spots. Foxing also noted on all exterior page edges as well as interior pages, with the worst being front pages up to page 11. Front pastedow…n has the author's personal bookplate and the opposite end page shows a 1937 gift inscription from the author, which is signed only as " Ken" (which was common with this author). Below the author's bookplate he also notes and design the wood cut and the jacket. Binding is tight, no hinge cracks, no torn or loose pages. Stated second impression on the title page. Interesting to note that the publisher (or author) manually modified the list of books which appears opposite the title page as well as the dedication page. Both of these have labels pasted over whenever the publisher printed. See photos. Signed by Author(s).

Cloth. Condizione: Almost Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. Black cloth binding. Contents a bit offset with a few very minor blemishes to cover. 320 pages with the publishers 52 page spring catalogue dated 1932 at the rear of the book. This is one of the most lengthy publishers catalog's I have ever seen from a book of this p…eriod. Most pages have no more than 3 books listed with quite an extensive review/intro for each one. THIS APPEARS TO BE THE AUTHOR'S GIFT TO A FELLOW AUTHOR HE DEDICATES THE BOOK TO, AS HE HAS WRITTEN HIS NAME ON THE DEDICATION PAGE "KENNETH C. THOMAS" DATED AUGUST 1933". THE DEDICATION PAGE STATES: "FOR JOSEPH HERGESHEIMER WHOSE LENGTHENING SHELF OF BOOKS REMAINS CLOSE TO LAMP AND ARM-CHAIR IN MY WRITING ROOM AT INTERLAKEN" There is also the author's bookplate present on the front inside paste-down with the word "THOMAS" underneath the figure on the plate which appears to be the author perhaps reading or contemplating writing his next book? The initials HNC seem to appear at the top portion of the bookplate (Most likely the bookplate artist). JOSEPH HERGESHEIMER was an author who was best known for his novels The Lay Anthony, Three Black Pennys, Java Head, Linda Condon, and Balisand. None (illustratore). Signed by Author(s).

THOMAS, Kenneth Champion. ECHOES IN THE DARK. London: Peter Davies, [1933]. black cloth, spine stamped in silver; 344 pages. First Edition. The author was apparently staying in Interlaken, NJ while writing this book but, other than that, I cannot find other information about the Thomas, other than this title is scarce. Signed pr…esentation from Thomas on the front endpaper: "For my friend, George, with respect and admiration for his work. Ken, Freehold Court, July 1934." With the author's bookplate on the front endpaper. Very Good (covers bright but heavy bump to upper corner of rear cover, also causing bumping to the text). $150.00.
