Presents, in its earliest-publication format, Eric Rohmer's "Elisabeth" in the felicitous English translation by Aaron Kerner. His first and only novel, preceding and anticipating his cinematic body of work by fifteen years. Foreword by Andre Aciman, one of the most brilliant novelists of our time. Postscript Interview with Rohmer, conducted in 2007, as part of the reissue of "Elisabeth" in France. "Witty banter, lust, ennui, and an undercurrent of violence percolate beneath a seemingly paradisiacal summer on the eve of World War II, in this landmark translation of the first and only novel by Eric Rohmer, the French New Wave's most beloved filmmaker" (Publisher's blurb). Born Maurice Scherer, he permanently changed his name to Eric Rohmer, which is a combination that comes from Erich Von Stroheim, one of the greatest film directors of the 20th century (he also memorably appeared in the Camp classic, "Sunset Boulevard", with Gloria Swanson and William Holden), and Sax Rohmer, the British thriller novelist/creator of the legendary "Fu Manchu" Series. "As a novelist, I am considered Modern. As a filmmaker, I am considered Classical" (Eric Rohmer). His ardent global followers consider him, simply, Master. An absolute "must-have" title for Eric Rohmer collectors. This title is a late-modern classic. As far as we know, this is the only Advance Reader Copy available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Precedes and should not be confused with the regular trade edition. A rare copy thus. One of the greatest writer/filmmakers of the 20th century. A fine copy. ISBN 1968671005.…
