(Sammanfattning:) "Avhandlingen behandlar Skärva gård utanför Karlskrona, en av Sveriges märkligaste anläggningar från 1700-talets slut. Upphovsmännen var två av tidens främsta kulturpersonligheter: skeppsbyggmästar…en Fredrik Henrik af Chapman och konstfilosofen Carl August Ehrensvärd. Vi har funnit att det tidiga lantställesbyggandet runt Karlskrona var ett fenomen av liknande betydelse som Stockholms malmgårdar och Göteborgs landerier. Byggnaderna ligger i en landskapspark vid vattnet. Huvudbyggnaden uppfördes ursprungligen som en H-formad rödtjärad ryggåsstuga med torvtak. Till denna fogades en tempelportik. I själva parken finns dessutom ett litet tempel, ett gotiskt torn och en stor urna kvar liksom ett gravmonument. Vi har arbetat på platsen med uppmätning, byggnadsundersökning och skadebesiktning. Parallellt har vi undersökt dokument, arkiv och litteratur som behandlar anläggningen. Vi har samläst vår egen analys av resultatet av vårt arbete på platsen med det äldre materialet. Härigenom har vi kunnat rekonstruera anläggningens ursprungliga tillstånd och förstå senare förändringar. Avslutningsvis har vi upprättat ett förslag till vårdplan för Skärvas framtida underhåll. I Skärva materialiserades Ehrensvärds idéer om nationell förnyelse av arkitekturen. På Karlskrona örlogsvarv förekom ett omfattande arkitektursamarbete mellan Ehrensvärd och af Chapman under fyra år före Skärvas tillkomst. I gestaltningen av Skärvas huvudbyggnad utläser vi Ehrensvärds principer till ett 'urhus' i nordisk dräkt. Vi läser också in funktionalismen och motiven från skeppsbyggandets formvärld. Spontaniteten och egenarten i anläggningens uttryck grundlades av upphovsmännen. Det är prövandet av arkitekturens ursprung och den suveräna frigjordheten gentemot den bundna traditionens sätt att behaga som är ställets stora kvalitet." - - - (Abstract:) "This dissertation describes the Skärva estate, near Karlskrona in the south of Sweden, one of the most remarkable establishments in Sweden, dating from the end of the eighteenth century. It was laid out by two of the leading cultural personalities of the period, Fredrik Henrik af Chapman, ship designer, and his art philosopher colleague, Carl August Ehrensvärd. We have found that the establishment of country estates around Karlskrona was a phenomenon equal in significance to the building of the country manor houses in the vicinities of Stockholm and Göteborg. The buildings are placed in a landscaped park close to water. The main building, originally in H-form, was a redpainted log cottage with a peat roof. A temple portico was joined to this. In the park, there were also a small temple, a gothic tower and a large urn, together with a monumental tomb. We have carried out measurements on the site, examined the buildings and inspected damage, studied documents, archives and literature concerning the estate. We have collated our own analysis of the results of our work on the site with tie older material and it has been possible to 'reconstitute' the original condition of the estate and to understand the changes which occurred later. Finally, we make proposals for a schedule of maintenance for Skärva in the future. Skärva was to realize Ehrensvärd's ideas for a national renaissance in architecture. This architecture should be based on a unification of antiquity with national fundamentalism. There was extensive architectural collaboration at Karlskrona Naval Dockyard between af Chapman and Ehrensvärd, during the four years preceding the establishment of the Skärva estate. In the main building at Skärva we can discern Ehrenvärd's principles applied to an archetype of Nordic building and we can also see the functionalism and motifs derived from the world of shipbuilding".
