Boards generally dust soiled, scuffed, and rubbed at margins w…ith wear to corners and spine ends missing; gilt lightly oxidized. Missing first free endsheet. Previous owner pencil to first pastedown. Interior foxed and waterstained at margins. Offsetting from photographs to verso of most pages. Majority of photographs are accompanied by an autograph, place, and date. Some photos lack an autograph and some autographs lack a photo. A Good or better example of a pre-Civil War autograph book, uncommon with photographs. The New York State Normal School, now SUNY, was initially a school for teachers to train. The majority of the men shown in this keepsake became part of the "Normal School Company," most of them joining the Union Army together at the start of the Civil War. There are a handful of women pasted in as well, though only two, Mary E. Butler and Louisa Ostrom, signed their pages.
