The publishing date is written as `1898` on the title page, however, in order to get more sales the publishers released the book just before Christmas in 1897. Therefore there is an inscription by the ex-owner reading `Christmas 1897`. Small stains and browning on title page and throughout text. Due to the lack of tissue guards when the book was first published the prints and text have left imprints on the facing pages. Small red stains to cover. Bumping and wear at edges.
