Donnelley & Sons Company" stationery. William Kittredge replies to E.H. Hugo's inquiry as to having Chinese typographic characters set in China "I would suggest that if…you get in touch the Yamanaka Company . that they would probably tell you how you could have Chinese characters set in China and imported to this country or imported from over there.'" Signed "Wm. A. Kittredge". The top left corner is creased and the letter is folded for mailing with a couple of letters in Kittredge's signature slightly smudged. E.H. Hugo has used the verso as the carbon copy for his reply dated December 19th. Very good. The Chicago designer and author of works on design William A. Kittredge (1891-1945) was the son of the printer Albion Kittredge. He apprenticed to Thomas Parkhurst and went on to work at the Riverside Press in Cambridge and subsequently as art director to various printing houses. He was Director of Design and Typography for The Lakeside Press, producing works for the Caxton Club and The Limited Editions Club.
