As the nation's first~ever foreign intelligence agency, the OSS was innovating on a tight time fuse, learning its way on the job. Inevitably, it made a number of fatal errors but scored impressive successes as well. Although today's Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) grew directly out of the OSS, this book is a forceful reminder of how much has changed in the world of intelligence over the past sixty years and how hard it is to draw lines connecting two very different eras. Kloman offers insights into OSS operations that could only be presented by an officer who served at the command level and oversaw critical decisions about where, when, and how those operations would be mounted.
