[++] "Richard Knoller studied at the Technical University in Vienna and graduated with honors in 1893. He gained practical experience in foreign machine factories. After his return, he worked in the steam engine factory Th. Schultz & L. Goebel. Already at this time he began his first projects Publications and, in addition to steam engine construction, he dealt with aviation problems. In 1899 he officially represented Austria at the International commercial congress in Philadelphia and subsequently became more involved in automobile construction and founded an automobile manufacturing company with L. Goebel At the Paris World Exhibition he received the gold medal for a valve control system. He also developed a steam car with a four-wheel brake with a compensating device. At the same time, Knoller continued to work on flight technology and wrote papers on fluid resistance and the aerodynamic state of suspension and numerous other topics. He continued his scientific work, which he began as an assistant to Johann von Radinger in 1895, in 1909 as an associate professor at the newly installed Chair of Aviation and Automobile Engineering at the Vienna University of Technology. In 1919 he became a full professor and Leo Kirste was one of his assistants. With the help of a generous donation from Arthur Krupp from Berndorf, he was able to begin building a wind tunnel. The special thing about this wind tunnel was that it was under normal atmospheric pressure. This design was later often referred to as the Göttingen wind tunnel, with the difference being that in the Vienna type the air jet was guided vertically and in the newer Göttingen type it was guided horizontally" (Wikipedia).
