Regimental history of this Pennsylvania unit--raised in Philadelphia-- that fought in the Irish Brigade of the Second Corps of the Army of the Potomac during the American Civil War. The 116th is included among William Fox's 300 "Fighting Regiments" of the Union Army. This book was written by an officer--and later general--from the regiment. Nevins, Robertson, and Wiley describe the work in "Civil War Books: A Critical Bibliography" as follows: "Obviously based on Gen. Mulholland's voluminous journal, this well-written and even-tempered account is one of the better narratives of 1863-1865 operations in the East." Green cloth with bright gilt spine title. Contents clean and bright with black and white photographs and illustrations. Includes unit roster. Dust jacket lightly edgeworn with crease on inside front dust jacket flap; in mylar cover.
