Jacket has a corner chip and small chip at the spine, two nicks on back, and is starting to darken on the back. Book is free of marks, tears, etc, even the ownership space is not filled in.

[minor shelfwear, light soiling to top and bottom edges of covers; fragile wartime jacket somewhat browned, with a few tiny closed tears, very minor paper loss at spine ends (no loss of text)]. Novel about the itinerant and emotionally trying existence of Army wives -- migrating around the country following their soldier-husbands from base to base, taking up quarters in rooming houses or cheap apartments in the adjacent towns (the citizens of which are often either indifferent or openly hostile to their presence), desperate for employment, seeking consolation and camaraderie among their own kind -- and all built around the hope of being able "to snatch a few hours at night with their men." Oddly, throughout this book the idea that the men might be eventually posted overseas, in harm's way, is rarely brought up by any of the characters; in fact, the only "action" the soldiers in the story ever see is when they are dispatched to Detroit, to help put down a race riot! Wear, missing chips along the edges, flaking at the hinges. Will send in a protective wrap.
