Paperback. Condizione: New. Komitas Vardapet is the most significant and iconic figure of Armenia. He is revered by all Armenians. A tragic figure and the genius of Armenian music, he survived the Armenian genocide, yet his story remains at the cultural center of the Armenian people and nation. All Armenians, both in Armenia and in the diaspora, recognize their soul and find their spiritual nature in Komitas. It is often said that the Armenian people continue today to live through him and his musical legacy. Much of the creative legacy of Komitas, music, papers, manuscripts, were destroyed or lost. Today, there is growing world-wide interest in Komitas' music with recordings, his concerts, and performances. During his lifetime, Komitas was highly regarded by his musical colleagues everywhere, including in Europe. He traveled extensively to the major musical capitals of Europe, Berlin, Paris, Vienna, and more. He also maintained a full and lively correspondence with churchmen, musical colleagues, and intellectuals in many countries. His letters give us an opportunity to understand this brilliant musician who possessed remarkable features of charm, modesty, an acutely perceptive mind, and an original wit.…

'What could be more sublime than a wall of dark, rotund Russian voices shimmering against the rising, ornate walls of a great cathedral? Not much, and this compilation of absolutely magnificent music proves it. The label Hearts of Space returns on this third choral collection to the ominous Slavic chant of their first choral album, Sacred Treasures I, which gathered together recordings of stunning Bulgarian and Russian choirs portraying the sacred works of Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, and other composers. Whereas Treasures I pulled from varied sections of sacred liturgies, including solo passages, Treasures III most often stays in harmonic chant with select voices occasionally rising and rolling in polyphonic heavenly calls. The collective voice draws the emotive tension taut here, as on Rimsky-Korsakov's "Our Father," which uses the absence of darkness to later juxtapose bold, rising drama. The Kiev chant "Blessed Art Thou O Lord" sends chills down the spine as the whispering consonants of the Russian language skip across the ancient repetition like sand skitters over a stormy beach. This is a collection as breathtakingly beautiful as the Cathedral of the Dormition itself. Not to be missed. '.…

Condizione: new. Pages: 100 Language: Russian. The armenian piano music has gone a way of more than one and a half century long. The works for piano by composers of the pre-Soviet period laid the foundation for a special national style. In the opuses of Armenian authors there is, on the one hand, a trend towards the forms of European classical and romantic miniatures, and on the other hand, a closeness to national musical folklore. The collection includes selected pieces by D. Tchouhadjian, M. Ekmalian, N. Tigranian, Komitas, A. Spendiarov. The edition is addressed to students of music colleges, higher schools, performing pianists, and piano music lovers. Contents D. Tchouhadjian Salon Polka "Zephyr" Mazurka M. Ekmalian Nocturne N.
