This exhibition seeks to show the influence of acclaimed Norwegian artist Edvard Munch on talented Polish artist Wojciech Weiss and to present the links between the art of Norwegian and Polish Modernism in a broader context. Prodigal critic and novelist Stanislaw Przybyszewski provides the link (through conversations and publications) of MunchÆs influence on Weiss, since both are from two very different centers of early Modernist culture. While MunchÆs paintings and PrzybysewskiÆs prose might be described as powerful, brutal, and full of despair, Weiss approaches the same subjects with curiosity and fascination. The scholarly text about these three artists is followed by the brilliant illustrations of this exhibit which are divided into four phases: Morgue, Evening Ray, Totenmesse (melancholy) and Spring., Polish/ English, Year1995, Illust. B/W53, Illust. Color32, ISBN 8390430711, Code 2523. Softbound, In Pristine Condition, Location of Exhibition: Munch-museet,1996, Cat. of exh. Pages 172, Size 12 1/2öx 9ö.
