Text in German. *2.5.1895 Brieg, DDR-Kulturpolitiker, Schriftsteller und Übersetzer. entstammt eine…r alten Intellektuellenfamilie (Sohn eines Arztes), verlebte seine Jugend im Rheinland, studierte an der Kunstgewerbeschule in München - Grafiker und Maler. bereits vor 1914 in der Wandervogelbewegung, im ersten Weltkrieg Soldat, kriegsverwundet, 1918 Anschluß an die revolutionäre Jugendbewegung, 1918 Gründer der Freien Sozialistischen Jugend in München und schon im selben Jahr Mitglied in der kommunistischen Partei. hohe politische Funktionen in der kommnunistischen Internationale schliessen sich an; 1919 entstehen seine Erinnerungen an eine erste Rußland-Fahrt ''Unterwegs zu Lenin'' (später verfilmt); 1931 sein berühmter Reportageband ''Mussolini ohne Maske'' oder auch ''Kennst du das Land'' (1962); 1947 schreibt er ''Ich lebe in Moskau''. 1954 ist er nach Rückkehr in die DDR maßgeblich am Aufbau der sozialistischen Kulturpolitik beteiligt.u.a. als Mitbegründer und Direktor des Literaturinstitutes ''Johannes R. Becher'' in Leipzig; auch Vorstandsmitglied im Schriftstellerverband, Promotion an der Uni Jena. Sein Roman ''Die Gronauer Akten'' schildert Geschehnisse in der Nazizeit um die Aufklärung eines Mordes an einem SA-Mann. Sein zweiter Roman ''Kleiner Stein im großen Spiel'' (1961 gedruckt) spielt zur Zeit des Münchener Diktats. Weiterhin hat K. viele Essays geschrieben, die ihn immer als streitbaren marxistischen Kulturpolitiker und Theoretiker auswiesen. ----- 1969 DDR-Nationalpreis / 1970 Erich Weinert Medaille und Kunstpreis des FDGB. Inhalt: Ein kleiner Stein im großen Spiel der politischen Auseinandersetzungen ist im Paris des Jahres 1938 der deutsche Schriftsteller Richard Greiner. Nicht aus anti…faschistischer Überzeugung hat er seine Heimat 1933 verlassen Evelyn, die junge Französin, bewahrte ihn damals vor der Rückkehr nach Deutschland. Den Vorabend des Münchner Abkommens erlebt er einsam, bewusst jedem Umgang mit der politischen Emigration ausweichend. Er ist von dem Wunsch beseelt, sich nur seinem schriftstellerischen Werk zu widmen. Eine plötzliche Depression macht ihm seine Sehnsucht nach der Heimat bewusst, und er beschließt, nach Deutschland zurückzukehren. Reaktionäre Kräfte wollen Gewinn daraus ziehen und bestärken Greiner in seinem Vorhaben. Es sind deutsche und französische Kommunisten, die ihn vor einer unbedachten Entscheidung warnen. Um endgültige Klarheit zu finden, flieht Greiner in die Bretagne. Aber selbst die Liebe zu Marie der schönen Bigoudèn aus Douarnenez vermag ihn nur kurze Zeit zu fesseln. Er verlässt sie und fährt nach Deutschland in der Hoffnung, etwas zu finden, ohne das er bisher gelebt hat, aber nun nicht weiterleben zu können glaubt: das Volk sein Volk".
