Hardcover. Condizione: As New. 1st Edition. Harry Kivijärvi (1931-2010) was one of Finland's best-known - and most international - sculptors. The artist, whose primary material was black stone, has been described as carrying on the age-old dialogue between humankind and stone. While aware of the long tradition behind him, Kivijä…rvi succeeded in finding his own distinctive expression that placed him in the ranks of the modernists. He was active on the Finnish art scene and was concerned to preserve the craft of stone working. Time of Stone situates Kivijärvi's art in the long lineage of stone sculpture by juxtaposing his works with those of six contemporary sculptors: Maria Duncker, Timo Hannunen, Aaron Heino, Anne Koskinen, Laura Könönen and Ville Mäkikoskela. Each of them sets their own characteristic use of stone alongside Harry Kivijärvi's art. Related to the exhibition The Time of Stone at Serlachius Museums, Finland 13 October 2018 - 14 April 2019. Text in English. 119 pp.

Hardcover. Condizione: As New. 1st Edition. Clare Woods (b. 1972) is a British artist whose evocative oil on aluminium paintings range in scale from small, intimate pieces to vast, immersive works. Originally trained as a sculptor, Woods paints flat on a desk, her fluidly sculptural brushwork invoking a tangible sense of gravity…. Her work is inherently paradoxical: it pleases the eye, yet a flaw or element of discomfort or vulnerability is ever-present. Her paintings are based on photographs she finds in books, newspapers or online. Her latest works portray cropped details from her daily surroundings. Her flowers in vases and views of dimmed rooms invoke the tedium of long hours spent indoors - an experience that has become familiar to everyone during the pandemic. Marking her Finnish debut, Clare Woods' solo exhibition at the Serlachius Museums provides an overview of her work from the past five years. The articles in this book were authored by Anouchka Grose, Laura Kuurne and Pauli Sivonen. Related to the exhibition Clare Woods: Between Before and After - Menneen ja Tulevan Välissä, 26 March 2022 - 5 March 2023, Serlachius Museum Gösta, Mänttä, Finland. Text in English and Finnish. 79 pp.

Hardcover. Condizione: As New. 1st Edition. American artist Devan Shimoyama (b. 1989) explores themes of sexuality, race, and gender through his carnival-inspired works. His art merges childhood experiences, queer identity, mythology, and art history into a vibrant, layered practice. Technically, his pieces are playful and exper…imental: Shimoyama fearlessly incorporates diverse materials into his paintings, including glitter, fabric, and rhinestones, and he also creates large-scale installations. Fade Cut features works from Shimoyama's Barbershop series, in which he transforms the hyper-masculine African American barbershop into an imagined queer fantasy. The installation, acclaimed in the United States, creates a welcoming, fictional space where people from all walks of life can freely express themselves. The book includes reflections on Shimoyama's themes by Serlachius Museums director Pauli Sivonen, collections and exhibitions manager Laura Kuurne, and the artist himself. This publication is connected to Fade Cut: Devan Shimoyama's Barbershop Project, held at the Serlachius Museums, Mänttä, Finland, 23 March - 18 August 2024. Text in Finnish and English. 69 pp.
