Oktober 1872 am Theater an der Wien in Wien uraufgeführt. Zusammenfassung der Verfilmung: Als ein gerissener Großbauer aus Grundldorf erfährt, dass eine neue Bahnstrecke in Planung ist, will er unbedingt erreichen, dass diese Strecke durch sein Dorf führt, und nicht durch das nahe gelegene Zwentdorf. Also macht er sich auf den Weg nach Zwentdorf, um dort die ahnungslosen Bauern ein Schriftstück unterschreiben zu lassen, auf dem sie bekunden, dass sie jede bauliche Veränderung in ihrer Gegend strikt ablehnen. Mit diesem Papier fährt der Großbauer nach Wien, um den Bauherren darzulegen, um wie viel einfacher es ist, die Trasse durch Grundldorf laufen zu lassen. Die Frauen der Zwentdorfer Bauern bekommen jedoch Wind von der Sache und beschließen, solange in Ehestreik zu treten, bis ihre Männer etwas gegen den hinterlistigen Plan des Grundldorfers unternommen haben. Das führt natürlich zu einigen Turbulenzen, zumal die 'verlassenen' Bauern beschließen, gemeinsam mit den jungen, alleinstehenden Zwentdorfer Frauen nachzureisen. Dagegen haben die Ehefrauen natürlich etwas einzuwenden. Mit List und Tücke gelingt es den Zwentdorfern dann aber doch, die Bahnstrecke zurückzugewinnen. (Quelle: filmportal) Mit seinen Kreuzelschreibern hat Anzengruber geschickt das Lysistrata-Motiv des Aristophanes aufgegriffen und in das ländliche Bayern verlagert. Durch den Verzicht auf die Schwarz-Weiß-Zeichnung der handelnden Figuren hat er sich deutlich der Hochliteratur angenähert. Als beste Figur ragt der Steinklopferhanns heraus. Er verkörpert die Lebensanschauung Anzengrubers, die sich gegen Heuchelei, Aberglauben und Übertreibungen wendet und für Toleranz eintritt. Ludwig Anzengruber, Pseudonym Ludwig Gruber (1839-1889) war ein österreichischer Schriftsteller. Er gilt als bedeutender realistischer Dramatiker des Wiener Vorstadttheaters in der Tradition Johann Nestroys und Ferdinand Raimunds.
