Anschließend folgt die Erörterung jener Leistungsanforderungen, die auf der Ebene des gesamten Gebäudes von Bedeutung sind, wobei hauptsächlich der thermische, akustische, visuelle und olfaktorische Komfort, die Innenraumluftqualität, der Energieverbrauch, die Dauerhaftigkeit, die Wirtschaftlichkeit und die Nachhaltigkeit betrachtet werden. Es folgt eine eingehende Diskussion der Anforderungen bzgl. Wärme-, Luft- und Feuchte-Verhalten sowie der Messgrößen auf der Ebene der Baukonstruktionen. Die in diesem Buch beschriebenen Analysen und Berechnungen führen zu nachhaltigen Gebäuden, die aus funktionalen und dauerhaften Baukonstruktionen bestehen und ein angenehmes und gesundes Raumklima aufweisen. Der gesamte Text, einschließlich der Abbildungen, wurde überarbeitet und wo nötig neu formuliert. In Kapitel 3 wurden die Ausführungen über den Komfort nicht nur auf den thermischen, sondern auch auf den akustischen, visuellen und olfaktorischen Komfort ausgedehnt.
