Nach den besten Quellen entworfen und gezeichnet von Hauptmann Radefeld, 1844". - "Pierre Labarthe (1760-1824) war ein französischer Reisender. Nach seinem Jurastudium in Bordeaux trat er in die Verwaltung ein, zunächst als Sekretär des Generalintendanten der Kolonien, de Vaivre, dann als Beamter für Kolonialangelegenheiten. Seine Fähigkeiten ermöglichten ihm einen schnellen Aufstieg. 1794 wurde er zum Leiter des Büros für die östlichen Kolonien und die afrikanischen Küsten im Marineministerium ernannt. Da ihm die Erblindung drohte, bat er 1808 um die Pensionierung. - Johann Adam Bergk (1769-1834) war ein deutscher Privatgelehrter, Übersetzer und Philosoph. Bergk war zeitlebens auf seine Einnahmen als Schriftsteller angewiesen. Über die bereits genannten Themen hinaus zählt man mehrere Veröffentlichungen, die unter dem Anstrich einfacher Ratgeber. Vermutlich lukrativer waren die mehr als zwanzig Reiseberichte von Forschungsreisenden und landeskundlichen Schilderungen außereuropäischer Länder, die er aus dem Englischen oder Französischen übersetzte". - Ohne die Seiten I-VIII der Vorrede.
