Jean-Pierre Claris de Florian (1755 - 1794) était un des familiers du château de Sceaux et le protégé de Voltaire qui était allié de sa famille. Auteur dramatique, romancier, poète, fabuliste, il fut lauréat de l'Académie. Banni de Paris pendant la Révolution, il fut emprisonné sous la Terreur et relâché au 9 thermidor, il mourut des souffrances endurées pendant sa détention, une année après, âgé de trente-neuf ans. Il a laissé des Fables, les meilleures après celles de La Fontaine, quelques pièces de théâtre et des pastorales, plus une traduction de Cervantès.
